Best Foods for Kidney Support

If it were me… These Are the Best Foods for Kidney Support

If it were me, I would keep it simple and focus on foods for kidney support that are hydrating, nourishing, and easy for the body to process.

In my last post, The Kidneys: The Body’s Main Filtration System, I shared how important the kidneys are for filtering and eliminating waste from the body.

Once you understand that… the next question becomes:  What should I actually eat to support them?

If it were me, I would keep it simple, hydrating, and focused on foods that help to gently move lymph and support kidney filtration.

Our kidneys are very sensitive to what we take in.

If it were me, I would be mindful of things that can be more taxing on the body, like:

  • Heavy animal proteins
  • Coffee
  • Carbonated soda drinks
  • Processed chocolates

Instead, I would focus on what the kidneys thrive on: hydration, minerals, and easy-to-digest foods.

Think: foods that are high in water, naturally cleansing, and not overly taxing on the body.

Best Kidney Support Foods

Hydrating Fruits (your #1 focus). These are some of the most supportive foods for the kidneys.

  • Watermelon
  • Grapes (especially dark purple)
  • Mango
  • Pineapple
  • Berries

Why they help: They have high water content, are easy to digest, and help move cellular waste through the body.

Citrus Fruits (a lymph puller/detox support)

Fruit is best eaten ripe and on its own. It digests quickly and moves through the body quickly. When combined with slower-digesting foods, fruit sugars can sit in the stomach longer than intended. This will lead to fermentation, which can cause gas, bloating, and discomfort.

Note: Eating unripe fruit (especially citrus fruit) can be irritating to the body, especially in the mouth. Listen to your body and adjust as needed.

Hydrating Vegetables

  • Cucumbers
  • Celery
  • Zuchini
  • Leafy greens

Why they help:  They add hydration + minerals and support the overall detoxification process.

Herbal Support

  • Parsley leaf
  • Butcher’s Broom root
  • Cordyceps mushroom
  • Juniper berry
  • Marshmellow root
  • Plantain leaf

Why they help: These herbs are traditionally used to support kidney health.  They are gentle, nourishing, and supportive to the kidneys.

If it were me, I would keep it simple and choose high-quality herbal formulas. The only brand I personally use (not affiliated) is Dr. Morse’s Handcrafted Botanical Formulas

If It Were Me…

If it were me, I’d keep it simple:

  • Morning: Lemon water + hydrating fruits or fruit juice
  • Midday: Fruits or veggies or a simple smoothie
  • Afternoon: Cucumbers with fresh homemade guacamole or a light salad
  • Evening: Fruits or a small amount of raw vegan chocolate

Nothing Complicated.  Just consistent, nourishing choices. These simple kidney support foods can be added daily.
